Your privacy matters to us at Football Sleuths.

We're two mates running a small UK hobby project, so we keep things dead simple: we only collect the bare minimum data needed to run our fun armchair football hunts, and we never sell or share your information for marketing purposes.

This notice explains exactly what we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and your rights under UK GDPR. It’s all about transparency and trust — because we want you to feel safe joining the mystery.

What data we collect

We only collect the following personal information when you enter a hunt:

Your full name Your email address

Any details or proof you provide in your answer

We do not collect payment card details (all payments go through PayPal, who handle their own privacy policy).

We do not ask for date of birth, address, phone number, or any other unnecessary information.

How we use your data

We use your name and email address only for:

Sending you the hunt clues (via email)

Managing entries and contacting winners

Sending hunt updates or winner announcements

Responding to your questions or support messages

Your guess/answer details are used only to judge the competition and verify the winning entry.

If you give explicit consent (via the opt-in checkbox on the entry form), we may occasionally send you emails about new hunts, launches, or related updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Legal basis

We process your data on the basis of:

Legitimate interests — to run a fair and transparent competition, contact winners, and manage the hunt properly.

Your consent — for optional marketing emails about future hunts (you can withdraw this consent at any time).

Who we share your data with

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

The only exception is PayPal / Meta — we share your name and email only if you win a cash prize and we need to process payment via PayPal (see PayPal / Meta’s own privacy policy).

How long we keep your data

Basic hunt data (name, email, guesses): kept until the hunt ends.

Marketing consent (email address only): kept until you unsubscribe (via the link in every email) or withdraw consent.

You can ask us to delete your email from marketing lists at any time.

Winner data (name + email + any payment-related info): kept for up to 3 years after the hunt ends (for prize proof, transparency, country-specific legal requirements, defending potential claims under the Limitation Act 1980, etc.)

After 8 years all personal data is deleted or fully anonymised.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

Access your personal data

Correct inaccurate data

Request deletion

Object to processing

Restrict processing

Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time (simple “unsubscribe” or email us)

We will respond to rights requests within 30 days (usually much faster).

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data (e.g. secure email providers, no unnecessary storage).

However, no system is 100% secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy notice from time to time.

The latest version will always be on this page.
